I'm Done!

I am done with school until I so choose to torture myself again!!! Yay!!! ;)

I am very happy my family got to come out and visit and such, but I must say, I am also happy for everyone to be gone...Today is my first day of NOTHING...absolutely nothing!!...since last summer I think.

My dad arrived on the train Thursday morning, and my mom and Matthew Thursday night. My dad and I went to Red Rocks and hiked around on Friday; Andrew played a couple games of chess with him throughout the weekend; and we made a mini photo-studio.

On Tuesday I took my mom to get pedicures for her Mother's Day present. =) On Sunday we all went to eat at Lola's...I recommend it.

Saturday was actual graduation and Kim & Chris came down. It was good to see them. We had a cookout at our new place afterward which was fun.

What now...
I'm shooting a wedding this weekend; mid next week into the next week, Andrew and I are going on a 1 year anniversary trip to San Diego; then that weekend (29th), I'm shooting another wedding. My mom's going to be here mid-June for a work thing, so I'll get to hang out with her again at that point; then Andrew and I are going to be camp counselors with Western Oaks in North Carolina the last week of June. The weekend of July 10th Andrew and I will be going to a Weekend to Remember in Las Vegas...and that's all the summer plans as of now.

I want to find some more photo jobs over the summer...anyone in the CO area want some pics?! Let me know!

I'll be applying all over to teenage residential facilities in this area. I don't think I'll start today...I need today to do no thinking...I'll start tomorrow.

Look on my facebook for pics from the weekend: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2017517&id=171701052&l=0b8d195f06

General Update

Hello friends and family!

I am two and 1/2 weeks away from graduating! Yay! The next two weeks are full of ministry hours, internship hours, papers, projects, and choir concerts. This Friday through Sunday I'm working 22 hours with Stand Up For Kids...Eek!...Gotta get my internship hours done though. We're doing a thing called 48 hours this weekend, where the kids can actually come stay at a place we found to sponsor us.

Go here to learn a little more about SU4K (stand up for kids).
http://www.aarpmagazine.org/people/rick_koca.html
Unfortunately Denver does not have an outreach center, like in this video, mostly because the Denver program is so new. Rick, the guy in the video, and also the founder, was at our meeting tonight, so that was cool getting able to finally meet him. Please pray for the kids especially with 48 hours this weekend - it is a chance for us to make a lot of connections with the kids and to really help them!

I was in Springfield this past weekend for Tara Hamlin's wedding, but was so busy with wedding stuff I didn't get to see many people. I did see my mom for a day, and my dad an afternoon. He came into Springfield and we took pictures at Washington park. It was nice to see them both. I stayed with my grandparents and it was good to see them too.

The rest of my life right now really is just full of school...pray for me! I am getting sick and have been pretty consistently tired lately. =( It will all be over soon enough, and I am so excited!

I wish I could say I have a job lined up after graduation, but I don't. I am shooting a wedding May 16th, and possibly one on the 29th. But both of them are friends, so they get discounts! I bought a new camera and lens recently and really want to use them to earn a little cash! A real job I am looking to get after graduating is in a residential facility for teenagers with mental and behavioral problems. I have found some options, just haven't applied yet...I know, I should get on that...I will.

Andrew and I moved into a new place at the end of March and we love it. We're still not totally unpacked and settled, but we are for the most part. I am excited to have time after graduation to 'nest.' =)

Andrew is doing well. He has a full ride next year for college...yay! It's through a private scholarship that was pretty much made for him...someone who plays guitar, and has taken sound recording classes and wants to go into some type of sound recording job.

Spike the pet turtle is doing well. She was scurrying around earlier but has settled down. I added more water to her tank yesterday which always makes her scurry around! I really want a kitten - our screen porch door even has a cat door in it! - but I'm still too allergic =(

That's all for now - I just wanted to give everyone a little update before I move on to life after college! =)

Pictures I can finally post because I found my camera cord!

The blizzard that gave me 2 extra days of 'spring' break...

Welcome to my new house!

The wonderful kitchen

Andrew brought his xbox stuff over before we even moved in so he could play on the big screen TV our land lady left for us to use.

Skylight in the living room

It's been way too long since I've had my own washer & dryer!

2nd bedroom

Bathroom

Our bedroom

The balcony; the little door goes into a storage area...

That's all for now. I have some pictures of us moving in, with boxes all over, but nobody wants to see that. We're still not unpacked :( so I don't have 'moved in' pictures yet.

New camera lens, New apartment, Spring break

I'm hanging out at our new apartment today waiting for my new camera lens to be delivered...hopefully I didn't miss it already. I just got here about 1/2 hour ago. I really want the lens though! It's a Canon 24-70 and it will go great with my new 5D camera body! I don't actually have the 5D yet, but it will be in stores soon, so I will have it soon :)

School was canceled yesterday and today due to the blizzard so I got an extra 2 days of spring break! Yay! My break is going to be interesting...packing, moving unpacking, getting new license plates, homework, visiting with Curtis and Katie, switching our address at the post office (I hate doing this..it never works right!) Somebody should come visit me while I'm on break ;) We could go skiing!

Our new apartment is fantastic! I took pictures of it all empty today so I will post them soon. I don't have my chord for my camera with me since I'm here at the new place right now. Some of my favorite features of our new place: kitchen, bathroom, balcony, washer/dryer, storage space, & un-awkwardly set up living room. Some of my least favorite things about it: it's on the 3rd floor, 2nd bedroom is pretty small, only 1 bathroom, & no assigned parking

I don't want to leave the house in case my lens comes, but I need some lunch/supper...it's 3:30...lupper? sunch? Ya know...kind of like brunch...but for lunch and supper

Little update...

So far I have done good on my new year's resolution. :) I have not been procrastinating very much at all. And haven't had to stay up super late just to do homework, so that's fantastic. :)

The internship is going well. The kids I've met and situations I've seen are heart breaking. Whoever reads this should say a prayer for homeless kids right now. I am a little worried about getting enough hours done for school. Right now I only have 3 set hours per week, and the rest of the hours I'm having to come up with doing other random things.

My choir went on tour last Wednesday through this past Sunday, which was tons of fun! We went to New Mexico...sang at some schools and churches. It was great to just get away and hang out with girls for 5 days. I had a little solo too :) My mom came into Denver for a performance we had on the Sunday we got back from tour. She was here till just this past Wednesday. It was great to see her and just hang out.

Well, that's all for now. :)

I found out Dana had her baby...So I'm a cousin again. :)

Her name is Addison and she was born on her aunt Marcia's birthday, Feb 3. I haven't heard anything about Ethan's reaction yet. Ethan is Addison's big brother...he's 4, I think. I wish I lived closer to see the wittle baby! ;)

My background check has officially been cleared, so I'm starting street outreach for Stand Up For Kids next Monday! This is where I'm doing my internship for school. I'm really excited. I'll be going out every Monday night to find homeless kids...hang out with them, give them food, resources for free medical care, counseling of sorts, etc. I'm excited to get out there, but still a little nervous! I think I won't be nervous after my first time.

I'm having some problems with motivation concerning school. Since I'll be done in May, my mind is definitely focused on things other than stupid homework assignments. I would much rather be spending time on my photography, SU4K (Stand up for kids), looking into grad schools and jobs, and all that fun stuff! By the way, I'm trying to officially start up my photography as a payed business. I'm excited, but it means I'll be buying new camera equipment...which is super expensive. I've been staring at what I want to buy for the last couple weeks, unable to actually purchase it yet. Not b/c I don't have the money, but b/c of the queasy feelings I get thinking about no longer having the money..ha.

Well, I'm off to get ready for the day.

I'm at home sick...and have been since yesterday morning. And I start classes tomorrow...not how I wanted to be spending my last weekend before school started. It hasn't even been fun sick where I can just relax and enjoy my days doing nothing. It's been body aching, nose blowing, sore throat, stomach cramping. I've actually gone through about 2/3 of a box of Kleenex since yesterday...where does it all come from? Gross, I know...

I shot my first wedding! And I must say it actually went pretty well. At the time it didn't really seem like it. The batteries died in the flash I was using, the flash was rented and I had never shot with a flash, so I didn't really know what I was doing - ended up with some underexposed shots and overexposed. RAW saved my life! It was also hard b/c the whole wedding was indoors, plus they dimmed the lights, so I was shooting in really low lighting. Check out my pictures here: http://jackiesphoto.blogspot.com/

On another note, I found an internship for my psych major. I will be working with Stand up for Kids. (www.standupforkids.org/) They work with homeless kids/youth. I don't know what I will be doing exactly, yet, because they're actually developing an internship for me. I have my 'basic orientation' this coming Wednesday; 'basic training' on Saturday; and 'street outreach training' at the end of the month. It will be interesting, if nothing else. I think I will actually enjoy it though.

That's about it for now! I'm appling to DU to get an MSW, but I probably won't be able to go in the fall b/c it's super expensive! So I might end up going to Front Range Comm College to et certified in sign language to be an interpreter. Since I'm officially a Colorado resident now, and that's a community college, it would be very cheap for me to go there! And I would be done with that program (2 year program) by the time Andrew finally finishes his music degree...he still has...who knows how long left!...it's not really that bad, but he does have 2 1/2 years left! Yuck!

I can tell I'm feeling a little better by being up to even writing anything on here. I think I will go work on editing my wedding pictures. Have a good begining to your year/semester!

...By the way, the only goal I made this New Years was to not procrastinate as much in school...we'll see ho it goes. :)
